Crispy Wei Wei Gindara Tofu Sisig

Sisig is a popular Kapampangan dish made with different parts of a pig. The spicy and salty all-time Filipino favorite is served during celebrations, gatherings and even as pulutan.

Pig ears and pig jowls are usually used. Marinated in a mix of soy sauce and vinegar, boiled, broiled, grilled then cooked with onions and served on a hot plate; the hot and tangy flavor of sisig never fails to satisfy the palate. But if you want a healthy kind of sisig, especially for your kids, take on this unique twist of using Wei Wei’s Ginadara tofu instead of meat.

Ingredients:

Wei Wei Ginadara Tofu, sliced into small cubes
5 pieces chili, chopped
2 long green pepper, chopped
1 medium onion, chopped
10 tablespoons vegetable broth
1 teaspoon cornstarch
½ teaspoon onion powder
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1½ cups cooking oil
Salt and ground black pepper to taste

Procedure:

Heat oil in a cooking pot.

Once the oil gets hot, deep-fry the cubed Wei Wei Gindara Tofu until it turns crispy. Remove from the pot using a kitchen strainer. Put in a metal colander or into a plate lined with paper towel. Set aside.

Combine vegetable broth, soy sauce, onion powder, and cornstarch in a bowl. Stir until all the ingredients are well blended. Set aside.

Scoop 3 tablespoons of oil from the pot where the tofu were fried. Pour it in a clean pan. Heat the pan on a stove top.

Saute onion, long green peppers, and chili.
Add the crispy fried tofu. Stir-fry for 1 minute.
Pour the bowl with broth mixture into the pan. Toss the ingredients until coated with the mixture.
Add salt and pepper to taste.
Transfer to a serving plate.
Serve with a dipping sauce composed of soy sauce, calamansi, and crushed chili peppers, or you may also opt for mayonnaise.
