Amongst the seafood variants there is, the squid seem to be underrated. Yet in reality, it can be eaten in many ways as cultures around the globe have their own take on it.
In China, it is used in stir-fries, rice, and noodle dishes.In Hong Kong, pre-packaged dried shredded squids are snack items. In Japan, it is used in almost all types of dishes, including sushi, sashimi, and tempura. Meanwhile in Korea, it is sometimes served raw. While here in the Philippines, we Pinoys usually have squid as adobong pusit or as the all-time favorite pulutan, calamares.
But why not have your own take on this small yet appetizing seafood? Try this easy but tasty Wei Wei recipe for that sweet flavor with a spicy kick everyone will enjoy.
Ingredients:
Wei Wei Squid Tubes and Squid Rings
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 piece chili pepper, minced
3 tbsp soy sauce
2 tbsp brown sugar
3 tbsp tomato ketchup
3 tbsp cooking oil
Procedure:
Slice each Wei Wei squid tube to three to four pieces to produce squid rings.
Heat oil in a pan then add in the garlic and pepper.
Sauté for about 2 minutes.
Add in the sugar and the soy sauce and stir the mixture for 2 minutes.
Add the squid rings and sliced squid tube to the pan and cook it for about 15-20 minutes.
Once the squid is tender, add in ketchup and chili pepper.
Stir until the ketchup is evenly distributed.
Serve hot.
