They say you are what you eat, but for a hotel in China, you eat with your food.

To celebrate Lunar New Year, Hangzhou’s First World Hotel in China’s Zhejiang province offered an extraordinary food experience. The hotel literally turned their spring pools into a steaming human hot pot.

The rectangular-shaped pool was divided into nine compartments, with each compartment filled with a certain fruit or vegetable. The vibrant colors of limes, corns, red peppers, bananas, apples, and even mushrooms, offered a colorful culinary spectacle.

Guests then dipped in the pool-turned-hot-pot bowl. While relaxing, they got to enjoy massive skewered barbequed meat with bell peppers that lay across the compartments.

Hot pot is a popular method of preparing Asian cuisine. Food is boiled in a simmering pot of soup stock at the dining table, having meats like pork or beef, vegetables like lettuce or cabbage, mixed into the flavorful soup. Typically eaten during cold weather, hot pot is often the main dish in family gatherings as the round hot pot symbolizes the unity of a family.
