How do you like your Pompano?
It is a common trait that we have as Filipinos to buy a lot of food during grocery shopping, then stock it up for a very long time. When this happens, we tend to have similar viands until the stocks run out, and we go grocery shopping again. But, who likes repetitive viands? Exactly, no one!
Although you can stock up golden pompanos in your refrigerator for a long time, never settle for just one dish! Here are 4 ways you can make your golden pompano extraordinary.
1. Grilled Pompano
Aside from it being simply delicious, another great thing about Grilled Pompano is its easiness when preparing it. It doesn’t need a lot of fancy ingredients to make it extraordinary, just the right way of cooking will make this dish delicious.
To prepare it, lightly cut both sides of the fish. Rub some sea salt and oil, and make sure to put it just when the grill is hot enough. Don’t flip it yet without the 7-10 minute mark or else, you’ll not get a delightful result. Serve it with the Filipino favorite toyomansi, then that’s it—your delicious Grilled Golden Pompano!
2. Fried Pompano
A crispy and golden brown skin in Fried Pompano is surely an irresistible treat for us, Filipinos. Worry not about the cholesterol that you may get while indulging yourself with this dish because pompano has just a moderate amount of fat, perfect for mild and tender taste.
In order to achieve that crispy skin and juicy flesh, make cross-diagonal cuts on the skin before spreading some salt for more flavors. Preheat the pan before putting the oil; and when it’s really hot, put the fish in the pan. Fry each side for 8 minutes or until golden brown. To spice up your Fried Pompano, serve it with your favorite condiments like vinegar or soy sauce; and voila!
3. Steamed Pompano
If you are watching your diet, then a Steamed Pompano is for you! Before you hold back, it may not be as savory as when you fry or grill it, but you can definitely taste another level of flavors in it. Plus, you can partner it with a delectable sauce which is a sure win!
To achieve this, season both sides with salt, pepper, and chilies—if you are a fan of spicy foods. Bring the water to boil, and then add the pompano in the steamer. Wait until tender, then that’s it. However, if you like it with more seasoning, make the sauce by sautéing garlic with oyster sauce. Serve it together, then you have the classic steamed pompano with delightful sauce!
4. Sinigang na Pompano
The best sinigang is made of fish, always. And what’s a better fish to use in your sinigang than the golden pompano? You can definitely never miss out that classic sour taste of sinigang as it will surely penetrate through the golden pompano.
To cook your most delicious sinigang na pompano, sauté onions and ginger before adding water for the soup. After the water boils, add sinigang mix and tomatoes, then boil it for another round. Finally, add the pompano and let it cook for roughly 10 minutes. To complete your sinigang, simmer kangkong and sitaw for another 2 minutes. Then, here it is—your classic sinigang na pompano!
